JCD pursues permanent cooperation and coordination with the UNCTAD

A delegation from the Jordan Customs Department (JCD) headed by the Director General of JCD, Major General, Jalal Al-Qudah, conducted a visit to Geneva, Switzerland to participate in discussions on the reactivation and update of the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA), and review the new ASYHUB program developed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The organization's goals are to maximize trade, investment and development opportunities of developing countries and assist them in their efforts to integrate into the world economy on an equitable basis"..
During the visit, the Al-Qudah highlighted JCD's intention to implement the new (ASYHUB) program, which will simplify information exchanges between maritime agents and customs administrations, with the view to develop data related to sea shipments to facilitate and expedite customs procedures at the port of Aqaba.
Al-Qudah also stressed the importance of continuing to simplify and streamline procedures related to international trade, noting the standing cooperation between the UNCTAD and JCD in capacity building. In this regard, Al-Qudah suggested setting up a regional training center for the World ASYCUDA program in Jordan to facilitate training and capacity building of customs administrations in the region..
The Director of (ASYCUDA) unit pointed to the importance of strengthening the existing cooperation between the unit and the Jordan Customs Department, expressing the unit's enthusiasm to provide logistical support and adequate training to implement the new program in the best way possible. .
JCD's delegation also participated in workshops and joint meetings with senior officials and representatives of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and representatives of the (UNCTAD) and the ASYCUDA Program Unit. The delegation was briefed on the practices of many countries in the area of information technology and program application and activation. .
This visit comes as part of the modernization and development processes carried out by JCD to improve performance and develop customs procedures, in light of the noticeable increase in the movement of goods clearance process, and the significant increase in the volume of intra-trade.
