JCD launches global trade facilitation program

  • The Director General of Jordan Customs Department (JCD), Customs -Major General Jalal Al-Qudah, and a number of senior officers met with experts from the World Customs Organization (WCO) to discuss means of enhancing cooperation between JCD and the WCO in SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Program (GTFP) , a WCO program funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The program aims at fostering and facilitating international trade, through the implementation and application of international standards and best practices.
    A team of experts in the program will follow with a week- long mission to exchange views and identify opportunities to facilitate expedited shipments and boost post audit, border management, expedited shipments and Single Window procedures.

    In his capacity as the Director General of JCD, the current Vice President of the WCO and the WCO's Regional Representative for North Africa and the Near and Middle East (MENA) region, Al-Qudah commended the efforts made by the WCO through the continuous guidance and support provided to the member customs administrations of the WCO.

    The Swiss Deputy Ambassador to Jordan, Mr. Andreas Huber, also stressed the importance of cooperation in promoting trade facilitation opportunities, noting that SECO will provide adequate funding to the implementation of the program.

    Maria Ortiz, Director of the Global Trade Facilitation Program at the WCO, said that the GTEP program will support JCD in developing a procedure allowing for expedited release of goods, thus complying with the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement's (TFA) Article 7.8 on Expedited Shipments.
